If you're having an acne breakout, wash your face regularly. Use mild soap or a gentle facial cleanser. Keep your hands clean at all times because it's inevitable that you'll touch your face with your fingers. If you have long hair, keep the hair away from your face. This will lessen irritation. Resist the urge to pop your pimples or squeeze out those blackheads and whiteheads; otherwise you risk spreading the acne-causing bacteria and cause the area to be infected.
Laser and light therapy is often the best of the acne scarring treatment methods available, and can be used to burn away the front layer of skin, allowing new and fresh skin to regrow in order to replace the scarring. Since scarring is usually not very deep with acne, the chances of new skin growing and replacing the old skin is quite high.
There are a number of both cosmetic and dermatological procedures to minimize or eliminate these scars. The most basic is to simply inject additional collagen in the scarred area. This lifts the skin and helps to fill small depressions and softer scars. This form of treatment doesn't work particularly well for ice pick scars, however.
